Statue of Unity 

The Statue of Unity is dedicated to India's first Deputy Prime Minister, Bharat Ratna, and the architect of modern India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This is the tallest statue in the world. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is also known as the "Iron Man of India". He was a freedom fighter, senior leader, and one of the founding fathers of the Republic of India. This monument is located on Sadhu Island on the Narmada River in the Indian state of Gujarat.


Project Design

Turner Consultants, which managed Dubai's Burj Khalifa, was appointed as the project management consultant. The contractor was given the authority to select, manage, and quality control.


In 2014, Larsen & Toubro was selected as the actual construction company. To determine the architecture of the statue, expert companies in that field were selected. Also, since this project will be built on a river island, the help of flood and groundwater experts was also taken.

Farmers from about 1 lakh 69 thousand villages have donated 135 metric tons of iron for the Statue of Unity. Using this, the grand statue was built. The height of the Statue of Unity is 182 meters.

In 1999, Padma Shri awardee Ram Sutar designed this statue. He has built more than 50 monuments. Ram Sutar is originally from Dhule, Maharashtra.

It took 11 years to build the Buddha statue at the Spring Temple in China. Whereas, it took only 33 months to build the Statue of Unity.

The Statue of Unity can stand firm even in an earthquake of 6.5 Richter scale. It can withstand wind speeds of up to 180 kilometers per hour.

The Statue of Unity has been built on Sardar Sarovar, which is 3.5 kilometers away from the Narmada River.

Tourists will be able to climb to the height of 153 meters of the Statue of Unity. The Statue of Unity is visible from a length of 12 km.


Cost

The planned cost of this project is Rs 2,232 crore. The project took 42 months to complete. It is said that the total cost till then has been Rs 3,000 crore.


Metal usage

The weight of the Statue of Unity is 67,000 metric tons. It has been designed to be protected from earthquakes, floods or gusty winds.

The foundation of the Statue of Unity has been dug 45 meters deep. Officials say that care has been taken to ensure that the Narmada is not endangered during this excavation.

You will have to go to Kevadia from Vadodara airport and railway station. This distance is 89 km. Tourists going from Ahmedabad will have to travel 200 km.
