Dr. Manmohan Singh 

Former Prime Minister and senior Congress leader Dr. Manmohan Singh has passed away at the age of 92. Dr. Manmohan Singh served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. Before becoming Prime Minister, he was also the Finance Minister in the Narasimha Rao government in 1991. Manmohan Singh is also known as the most educated Prime Minister. Dr. Manmohan Singh Born and Birth Place -

Former Prime Minister of the country Manmohan Singh was born on September 26, 1932 in the Punjab province of Pakistan in undivided India. Senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh completed his education from the University of Cambridge. He also obtained a doctorate in economics from the world's famous educational institution Oxford University. Apart from Punjab University, Manmohan Singh has done academic work at the Delhi School of Economics and Delhi University.


Manmohan Singh is known for the economic reforms of the country. Manmohan Singh played an important role in the Narasimha Rao government and during the government's budget, the foundation was laid for the development of modern India and the roadmap for the progress of economic reforms one after another in the country. But Manmohan Singh never stopped Narasimha Rao from taking credit for it.


Dr. Manmohan Singh Career -

Manmohan Singh also got the opportunity to work in the United Nations once. He was selected as the Economic Affairs Officer for the United Nations General Assembly during the years 1966-1969.


Manmohan Singh served as the Secretary-General of the South Commission at the United Nations from 1987 to 1990. It is an intergovernmental organization of developing economies. Senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh also served as the head of the Planning Commission from 1985 to 1987. Along with this, he has served in many important positions including Chief Economic Advisor from 1972 to 1976. Dr. Manmohan Singh is an Indian economist and was also the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 1982 to 1985. During this period, he introduced many banking reforms.

Manmohan Singh served as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha from 1998 to 2004. After this, Manmohan Singh took oath as the Prime Minister after defeating the NDA government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee led by the UPA between 2004 and 2014.

- Adam Smith Award of the University of Cambridge (1956)

- Wright Award for Distinguished Service at St. John's College, Cambridge (1955)

-Dr. Singh has been honoured by the Japanese Nihon Kiizai Shimbun and other organisations. 


Manmohan Singh has been conferred honorary degrees by Cambridge and Oxford and several other universities.
